Subaru Crosstrek, Forester SUVs Win “Top Pick” Awards from Consumer Reports
With more than 260 vehicle models available, you could throw up your hands and leave the job to AI. Seeking help from real automotive experts like those at the venerable and respected Consumer Reports (CR) might be more helpful. CR recently issued its 2025 Top Picks. The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek and 2025 Subaru Forester are on the list.
“Making Consumer Reports Annual 10 Top Picks award again is especially rewarding as their testing is so extensive,” said Jeff Walters, president and COO, Subaru of America, Inc.
Consumer Reports’ Top Subcompact SUV: 2025 Subaru Crosstrek
With two engine choices and a high ground clearance that handles some light off-roading in Colorado’s high country, the 2025 Crosstrek was CR’s favorite in the popular Subcompact category. The reviewers liked its ride, fuel economy standard all-wheel drive, ease of entry/exit, comfortable and supportive seats, and infotainment screen controls – physical and touch.
The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek comes in five different trims – Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness – the best bet for off-road use. The Base engine is a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder version with 152 hp. Other trims get a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder version that turns out 182 hp. Fuel efficiency on all is 29 mpg combined. All come with Subaru’s Eyesight® Driver Assist Technology. Also available are additional active safety equipment, including Blind-Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Reverse Automatic Braking, and SUBARU STARLINK® connected services. The Crosstrek has gotten the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s top 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score.
Consumer Reports’ Top Compact SUV: 2025 Subaru Forester
This is the 12th consecutive CR Top Pick for Forester. With five trim levels and a hybrid getting 40% greater fuel economy coming soon, the 2025 Subaru Forester has something for everyone. “It is still roomier than it appears, with easy access, great visibility, a compliant ride, outstanding fuel economy ... Plus, it has a quieter cabin and more cargo space than the previous model...” according to CR’s reviewers.
EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is standard; more safety technologies are available. SUBARU STARLINK® Multimedia with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto ™ come standard. Optional (on Sport, Limited and Touring) Dual-Function X-MODE® make tough driving conditions easier. EPA- estimated fuel economy is 29 mpg combined. The 2025 Forester is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety PICK+.
