Child Safety Is Important – The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Aced the Test
With vehicle fatalities on the rise, the need to protect child passengers is crucial. That’s why Schomp Subaru is so happy to let you know that the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek – our mighty little SUV – was one of the winners in Cars.com’s annual “Best Cars for Car Seats” awards.
In making the award, the Cars.com Jennifer Geiger said, “Subaru’s tiny Crosstrek SUV got redesigned for 2024 with fresh styling, updated powertrains and technology upgrades, and the model carries over for 2025. The Crosstrek earned straight As thanks to its easy-access anchors and plentiful backseat legroom.” So...style, power, great technology and increased safety for kids. A win-win-win-win!
What Gets Evaluated
Cars.com’s Geiger, and her colleague, Editor-in-Chief Jenni Newman are both mothers and certified child passenger safety technicians. Over the past 12 months they gathered data from their Car Seat Checks in 55 different new vehicles made available by manufacturers. They particularly look at the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH). The Subaru Crosstrek got an “A” because of easy-to-find locations under removable fabric covers and because tether anchors on the seatback are clearly marked and also easy to use.
They also checked out how the Crosstrek handled:
- Rear-facing convertible seats – easily installed with a good fit. “A”
- Forward-facing convertible seats – needed to remove the head restraint so the seat would be flush against the seatback, but then it fit well and was easily installed. “A”
- Booster seats – removing head restraint was necessary to fit well but the large buckle stalks made it easy for kids to grasp and use. “A”
Here’s more information about how the seat checks are conducted.
Colorado Car Seat Law
The law is very specific about who must use a child car seat:
- Under 1 year and less than 20 lbs – rear-facing car seat and located in the rear seat if there is one.
- 1-4 years between 20-40 lbs – rear-facing or forward-facing car seat located in rear seat if available.
- 4-8 years – booster seat located in rear seat if available.
- 9-18 years – properly fitted seat belt or child restraint system.
It’s worth noting that the 2025 Subaru Forester missed winning the overall Best Cars for Car Seats award by just one mark – getting a “B” on the Booster Seat – and was named a Top Finisher.
Our Schomp Subaru client advisors would be happy to show you what makes these two Subaru vehicles great family choices – and excellent protectors of child safety.
