Results are in on Car and Driver’s ”2025 Editor’s Choice: Best New Cars, Trucks, SUVs and Minivans.” No surprise that three Subaru models came out shining – and for the second year running:
2025 Subaru BRZ – Affordable Sports Car
2025 Subaru Crosstrek – Compact SUV
2025 Subaru Outback – Station Wagon
Car and Driver’s reviewers tested almost 500 models in 45 different market segments. It’s a great tool for consumers to cut through the noise and get the nitty-gritty to compare vehicles they’re considering for purchase or lease.
Jeff Walters, President and COO of Subaru of America, Inc., said, “This recognition proves Subaru’s dedication toward offering affordable vehicles across various segments, built to the highest standards from safety to performance, with the latest technology.”
2025 Subaru BRZ has “true” sports car handling and has “enough power to have fun with.” The BRZ “brings driving fun and deft handling to the masses and manages decent practicality while it’s at it.” It comes in three trim levels with a starting price of $31,210.
2025 Subaru Crosstrek, Subaru’s best-selling subcompact SUV, has above-average off-road capability ... good on gas, road-trip friendly front seats. With pricing beginning under $26,000, it comes in five different trim levels, including Wilderness, designed for outdoor enthusiasts – perfect for Colorado drivers.
2025 Subaru Outback is a standout for its blend of “crunchy, off-road flavored personality with a spacious interior and decent road manners.” It is a “jack-of-most-trades at a reasonable price.” It includes eight trim variations and is priced beginning at about $29,000.
Car and Driver’s choices are based on stringent criteria:
Performance: Closed track measuring straight-line acceleration, cornering/handling, braking, and top speed.
Interior Sound Level: Measuring idling, zero – 70 mph acceleration, and 70 mph cruising.
Fuel Economy and Driving Range: Testing on a standardized route in good road and weather conditions.
Cargo Space and Storage: Meticulously measured interiors enabling easy consumer comparisons, like how many bags and passengers can be easily carried.
Visibility and Seating Height: Seating height measured using an “average” size driver; visibility by whether drivers’ views over the hood and through rearview mirrors were clear.
Infotainment: Checked by how well systems respond to different commands. C&D also checks each USB port for charging time response.
Safety and Warranty: Using government and insurance crash-test data and testers’ own observations. Brand warranties compared for length of coverage and extras like complimentary regular maintenance.
Editor’s Observations: Based on more than 170 individual checks.
Of course, we think every Subaru model is a winner, and we invite you to visit Schomp Subaru to see and choose one for yourself.
